This week the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission’s (ERLC) Brent Leatherwood was confronted by a journalist working on behalf of Steven Crowder of Louder with Crowder fame. While following Leatherwood with a mic and camera, the journalist asked Leatherwood why he was pushing to keep the transgender covenant school shooter’s manifesto hidden from full release. Leatherwood was also asked why he called the leaker and the media pushing the partial manifesto leak “vipers” and whether or not he thought the shooter was more vile than the leaker. All of these questions were met by silence as Leatherwood refused to give a comment and proceeded to stroll away from the confrontation and escaped via elevator. You can watch the encounter HERE.
Sadly we see these types of confrontations all the time from leftwing politicians or corrupt bureaucrats caught in a James O’Keefe esc sting. The difference here is that Leatherwood is not on the deep state’s payroll or the DNC’s payroll. Instead, his livelihood is paid for by every day southern baptists who give faithfully to their church. Regardless of this fact, Leatherwood seems to believe he is above scrutiny as he refuses to provide answers to these same questions to every day southern baptists. Instead, Leatherwood has spent his time successfully lobbying for a new red flag law in the state of Tennessee.
In light of all these things many laypeople in the pews of SBC Churches (such as myself) now feel as though we have to fight off our own church association to keep our rights from being infringed upon. On our left we have the Biden administration jailing anti-abortion advocates and pushing for more children to castrate themselves and take similar chemical cocktails that the covenant shooter was most likely under the influence of. On our left we have Brent Leatherwood and the ERLC working to kill anti-abortion bills (See LA HB813) and lobby against the 2nd Amendment. Conservatives in the SBC can’t catch a break.
It is high time that Brent Leatherwood and the ERLC face the music and answer questions. Who is Leatherwood representing? leftwing transgender activists? The gun control lobby? Or the Southern Baptists who pay his salary?
Leatherwood cannot continue to spit on SBC congregants and tell us it is rain. If the SBC does not take drastic measures to hold the rogue ERLC accountable, I fear the SBC will lose many more faithful members who can’t stand to see their tithes fund their ideological opposition.
